What is a CNC fibre laser machine?

Dedicated metal cutting, powered by fibre

Fibre laser machines, also known simply as fibre lasers, are dedicated metal cutting machines typically used to cut mild and stainless steel as well as other non-ferrous metals. They are powered by fibre-optic laser sources of 500W and above, and can be configured to cut very thick metals.

Because the beam is generated and delivered through solid-state fibre, these machines cut faster, run more efficiently and need far less maintenance than the CO2 systems they have replaced across most of the industry. That combination of accuracy, speed and low running cost is why fibre has become the standard choice for modern fabrication.

Key features

Key features of our fibre laser machines

Efficient, precise cuts

Clean, accurate cutting on both thin sheet and thick plate, so one machine covers a wide range of work.

Modern, compact design

A rigid body and space-saving footprint that fits real workshops without sacrificing performance.

Remote diagnostics & support

Remote diagnostics and UK-based technical support keep your machine productive and downtime low.

How it works

How fibre laser cutting works

A fibre laser focuses a high-powered beam through a fibre-optic cable to a compact cutting head, which melts and vaporises metal along a precise path. An assist gas clears the molten material from the cut, leaving a clean edge.

With no mirrors to align and no laser gas to replace, fibre systems cut faster, draw far less power and need far less maintenance than CO2 machines. The right assist gas is chosen to balance speed, edge quality and running cost.

Assist gases

Nitrogen

Clean, oxide-free edges on stainless steel and aluminium.

Oxygen

Faster cutting and greater depth on thicker mild steel.

Compressed air

A lower-cost option for thinner sheet and general work.

FAQs

What is a fibre laser machine?
A fibre laser machine uses a high precision laser beam to cut and engrave metal quickly and cleanly. It delivers consistent accuracy, low running costs and excellent reliability, making it a strong investment for modern fabrication.

Fibre lasers handle a wide range of metals, including stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium, brass, copper and specialist alloys. They are ideal for workshops that need versatility without compromising cut quality.

Power depends on your workload. Lower power systems suit light fabrication, while higher power machines cut thicker materials faster and support higher production volumes. Choosing the right power level ensures maximum return on investment.

Most applications use nitrogen, oxygen or compressed air. Each gas affects speed, edge quality and running cost, so selecting the right setup helps you optimise performance and efficiency.

Fibre lasers are designed for minimal upkeep. Routine cleaning and consumable checks keep the machine running smoothly, and the laser source itself typically lasts many years with no major servicing.

They are widely used in metal fabrication, engineering, automotive, aerospace, signage and precision manufacturing. Any business needing fast, accurate metal cutting can benefit.

Yes. Axe & Status offer full installation, operator training and ongoing technical support to ensure your machine delivers maximum performance from day one.
